Member survey results & CEO Listening Tour sign-up

Dear colleagues,

For my first CEO Message, I am pleased to discuss the results of our recent member survey distributed in May via our external partner, Abacus Data. The survey will inform my upcoming CEO Listening Tour.

I would like to thank those who participated for taking the time to share their feedback. Over 3,000 responses were received and the insights and perspectives provided are invaluable to the Royal College as we strive to better meet the needs of members.

Here are my 5 key takeaways:

  1. Most respondents view the Royal College as a respected and trustworthy organization.
  2. Respondents are moderately satisfied with the Royal College and how we are delivering on our mandate.
  3. Satisfaction is higher for areas in which the Royal College is well-known and established (e.g. standards, accreditation, the Maintenance of Certification Program) and lower for networking, advocacy and value for membership.
  4. Satisfaction is higher among Royal College volunteers/contributors and those members who have more years in practice; early-career physicians expressed less engagement with the Royal College.
  5. Respondents are divided on whether the Royal College is focused on what matters to members and to society.

We’re grateful for the feedback and that respondents view the Royal College as respected and trustworthy, and delivering in our flagship areas. However, the survey responses also demonstrated many areas for us to improve upon, and highlighted several ways to enhance how we engage and serve our membership.

I invite you to view a more detailed summary of the survey results on our website.

In my new role, I am committed to continuing this important dialogue with members and delving a little deeper into the insights brought forward in the survey. This fall, I will host a series of events as part of a CEO Listening Tour, where I hope to connect with you – our members – on how we can improve our engagement with early career physicians, respond to evolving expectations around the value for membership, and align our activities with member priorities. I am also looking forward to hearing what is top of mind for you – your questions and concerns about the Royal College, and how it can best meet your needs.

Please join me at an upcoming session to share your ideas and perspectives. Sessions will be held virtually and in-person, and depending on interest and uptake, we will be adding dates and locations further into the fall.

Sincerely,
Chris
