Introducing the future bilingual Royal College assessment centre

The Royal College is pleased to share that, starting as early as 2027, we will be opening a specialized, self-operated assessment centre located in downtown Ottawa.

This new location at 160 Elgin Street will enable a permanent approach and home for Royal College applied examinations going forward, serving the needs of both Anglophone and Francophone candidates.

The Royal College commitment to a custom-built exam space empowers candidates and examiners alike, ensuring that exams are conducted in environments optimized for focus and standardization, ultimately upholding the Royal College’s standards of excellence and academic integrity. The new centre presents opportunities to leverage the space for new ideas, including alternative and emerging forms of assessment.

Centralizing applied exam delivery in Ottawa is intended to stabilize expenses by reducing the Royal College dependence on vendor contracts for space and technology as well as limiting technology and infrastructure requirements to one space instead of 20 separate locations. The decision provides stability and control over critical variables to deliver quality exams for many years to come.

Our thanks to the chairs and vice-chairs of the Exam Boards and Examination Committee, as well as all our examiners, for their dedication and significant contributions in developing and delivering our examinations and making this transition possible.

Renovations will begin in 2025 and are expected to be completed in late 2026. The centre is expected to host the first exam session as early as 2027.  We will keep you apprised of ongoing updates, and we look forward to welcoming examiners and candidates in the new space!
